ADVOCATING FOR THE COMMUNITY

Isuroon has been at the front line working with the state and voicing our concerns to address institutional racism and make policy changes to improve the upward mobility of Somali women.

We have taken a bipartisan approach to advocating for Somali women’s and girls’ access to health care at the capitol, meeting with policymakers and their staff and influencing how the legislature and governor include Somali women in social disparity decisions. We make data-driven policy recommendations formed from community-based participatory research approaches.

Through our advocacy work, Isuroon has introduced two bills into the Minnesota legislature to address health disparities and provide funding for culturally-specific Somali women’s health programs, with positive outcomes.
